Meet The Designers: Naomi & Anousjka from SKUA Studio

Tell us a little about yourself and the story behind your brand.
SKUA Studio was founded by Naomi and Anousjka, both born and raised in the Netherlands. They met while studying for a master’s degree in shoe design and craftsmanship. From the very beginning, they shared a unique connection, as well as the same drive and passion for building a brand that truly makes a difference. Their mission is to create size-inclusive heels, offering an extensive size range from EU 35 to 46.

What made you decide to start the label?
Initially, they collaborated on various projects for fashion designers and artists. During this time, they developed a distinctive style that sets them apart from other designers. This became the starting point for creating SKUA Studio’s first collection.

How would you describe your aesthetic in three words?
Bold, elegant and colourful.

Where do you usually find inspiration for your collections?
It varies from collection to collection. Sometimes, we draw inspiration from powerful women in the Space Age, while other times, it comes from unusual shapes, architecture or nature. Ultimately, we find inspiration in whatever captures our attention and stimulates our senses at that particular moment.

Is there one piece or collection that feels especially important to you? Why?
We both have a soft spot for the Roxy MILKYWAY and Galaxina Accid models. Both designs are experimental and bold, and they were among the first prototypes we created for the OWN YOUR OWN collection.

How do you approach materials and production?
We believe it is important to work with leather sourced from within the EU, where strict regulations help ensure high standards of quality and production. This also contributes to creating durable products that last longer. We aim to make the most of every piece of leather we use, turning leftover materials into smaller accessories to minimise waste.

What do you want people to feel when they wear your pieces?
Our collection is called OWN YOUR OWN, and that name reflects exactly what we want to communicate. We want people who wear our designs to feel empowered by their own strength and individuality. The shoes don’t define you, you define how you wear them.

What are you working on next?
We are currently developing a more accessible line: lower models, but with the same bold attitude. We are also introducing some fun new accessories. ;)
