Hence, Kakhovka is a port city on the Dnieper River in Kakhovka Raion, Kherson Oblast, of southern Ukraine. The city was captured on 24 February 2022 by Russian troops during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. A huge Soviet-era Kakhovka dam on the Dnipro River that separates Russian and Ukrainian forces in southern Ukraine was breached on 6th of June 2023, unleashing floodwaters across the war zone.
